The Local Better Regulation Office (a non governmental department established to reduce regulatory burdens on business) is working in partnership with Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership to explore the potential of developing a new relationship between local businesses and regulatory services such as Environmental Health, Trading Standards, the Fire Service and HMRC.
Businesses regularly cite regulation as being a barrier to growth and the aim of the project is to provide a joint offer of support from regulatory services to enable business to overcome both the real and perceived regulatory barriers. The content of this offer will be developed by both local businesses and regulatory services.
Business Builder is supporting this project by hosting the project officer and providing the links to the local business community. Addressing regulation as a barrier to growth is considered a key role of Local Enterprise Partnerships. Leicester and Leicestershire are leading the way in this work and Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce has been recognised as a key partner.
Over the last few months consultations have taken place with representatives from regulatory services (Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Fire Service, HMRC, Environment Agency and Health & Safety Executive) Business Support organisations and individual businesses. Numerous suggestions have been made by all parties on how we could build upon the relationship that currently exists between businesses and regulators. A draft proposal has been developed and will be consided at the end of May to move this project to the next stage.
