Business support is being unleashed, says Mark Prisk
Business minister Mark Prisk says cuts to public funding of business support does not mean that advice is no longer available.
Small business owners must get used to seeking out the advice and support they need rather than expecting it to come to them, the minister overseeing radical reforms to Business Link has said.
Mark Prisk, the Business Minister, defended the Government from criticism that people trying to set up businesses for the first time now face “a serious lack of help”.
Advisers argue there is a significant “hole” left by the demise of the Business Link network of advice centres last month and the end of regional development agency funding.
Mr Prisk said the decision to shift public funding away from advising start ups towards companies with the potential to grow quickly and export was right.
The plethora of private sector initiatives that have been created since announcing the decision to close Business Link was evidence that State funding could crowd out the market for business advice, he added.
